'Home-made irritant' sprayed in driver's face

POLICE have released CCTV images of two men they want to talk to in connection with an attack on a delivery driver in Weston-super-Mare.

At 4.05pm on March 28 two men jumped into the back of a delivery driver's van parked outside the Hong Kong Chef in Nightingale Court and sprayed liquid in his face.

The liquid, believed to be a home- made irritant, disorientated the driver and cash was stolen by the men who then fled the scene.

Enquiries are continuing and police have acquired CCTV footage of two men who were seen in the area at the time of the incident.

Detectives would like to speak to these two men as they may have information which could help with their investigation.

A dark-coloured, hatchback-style vehicle was seen to drive slowly past the delivery van as it was reversing and police are examining whether this was involved.

DC Matthew Bryant, who is investigating the incident, said: "This was an unexpected and unpleasant experience for the victim who was left feeling shocked and disorientated by the attack.

"Our investigation continues and I would appeal to anyone who knows the people responsible to come forward and contact the police."

Anyone who recognises these men or knows who is responsible for the robbery should contact police on 101.

Alternatively, you can phone the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111. The operators never ask your name or trace your call.
