U.S. Mac sales slump but market share climbs

Apple may finally be feeling the PC sales slump in the U.S., research firm IDC said Thursday. According to IDC, Apple sold fewer Macs in the U.S. during the second quarter than it did in the same period a year earlier. If the research firm's forecast is accurate, the decline would be Apple's first in three years.

IDC estimated that Apple sold 1.81 million Macs in the U.S. during the quarter that ended June 30, down 1.1 percent from the 1.83 million machines sold in the same quarter of 2011.

Leaked iPhone 5 Images And Video Seem To Confirm Everything We Expect

Screen shot 2012-07-30 at 8.58.44 AMIt's expected that the next-gen iPhone will launch in September, which means that Apple has approximately two more months to keep the specs, design, and availability a mystery. But that seems to be proving difficult, as a brand new video has just hit the web courtesy of Macotakara. It shows a longer iPhone housing with the same two-tone finish that we saw on 9to5Mac's leaked images. There is also an obviously smaller mini-port not unlike the 19-pin mini connector we've confirmed here at TechCrunch, and a new speaker grill down at the bottom.

The Psychology of Our Supervillain Fascination

Why are we fascinated by supervillains? Posing the question is much like asking why evil itself intrigues us, but there’s much more to our continued interest in supervillains than meets the eye. Not only do Lex Luthor, Dracula and the Red Skull run unconstrained by conventional morality, they exist outside the limits of reality itself. [...]

Why Are Keynesians Calling for Tax Increases?

Nick Gillespie, Reason
The short answer to why neo-Keynseians are in favor of tax increases now is because they are first and foremost political creatures.Back in 2010, everyone agreed that if all the Bush rates expired, the feds would haul in about $3.9 trillion over a 10-year period. If only the rates on the $200,000-plus crowd expired, the extra amount would be around $700 billion over the decade, or around $70 billion a year. That's a lot of money to everyone but the federal government, which spends close to $4 trillion a year. Simply put, the push to change tax rates on the wealthy isn't about...
